Spring Cleansing
Don't forget the body!
Mother Nature is certainly springing into action with all the new life bursting forth in this area. It is always an amazing proces to me; especially the affect it has on people. With the onset of warmer weather and longer days most people tend to utilize their energy differently and in most cases, finding more of it. With all the newness Spring brings, many become motivated to do a deep cleaning of their homes, yards, cars and businesses. We feel called to move out the old and stagnant energy that has built up around us and kept us warm and introspective during the winter months and allow the fresh, Spring breeze to set us free! So while you are doing yoru material surrounding, let's not forget about our bodies.
There are many wasy to clean out our bodies. Some peole do colon cleanses, liver cleanses, gallbladder cleanses, juice cleanses... the list goes on. We are talking about cleansing here, not fasting. There is a difference between a fast and a cleanse. A fast will clear toxins out of the body, however, it can deprive the body of vital nutrients. A cleanse supports the body while flushing out toxins. Therefore, cleanses done correctly are a gentler method of restoring the body to an innate balance.
A vital component to cleansing is water. The body needs at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces on a regular basis. So if you ar e150 pounds, you need to drink 75 ounces of water per day regularly. On a cleanse, it is helpful to up the amount of water you are drinking to help the toxins flush swiftly. Each body is different, so the amount of water will depend on your personal situation.
Each organ and cell of the body impacts the functioning of the others, therefore, if one organ or body system is toxic and overworked, something(s) else in the body is compensating for it. If you are not sure where to start, the colon is always a good place. It is amazing to me that people, gastroenterologists included (maybe not all!), are okay with food staying in the body for several days. Would you keep your garbage in your house at 98.6 degrees for several days? Probably not! But people think it is okay for the human body. Your transit time (mouth to toilet) should be about 16 hours or less. Most americans are not in that situation. That is why the colon is a good place to start! The best way to assure having regular eliminations on a cleanse if you are not already is to use a gentle fiber for a few weeks before a cleanse (see last months newsletter for more info on this). The fiber in and of itself is a great cleansing tool.
The easiest way to do a cleanse is gently. A nice subtle cleanse would be to switch to vegetables for a few days. If you that is not enough or it doesn't accomplish what you want, a few days of just juices is simple enough. The toughest part of cleansing with juices is getting over the "need" to chew, but it is possible and you will love the results if done correctly. Your body will direct you on what it needs if you listen to it.
Of course there are many herbal cleanse products on the market that allow you to continue eating during your cleanse. Remember, cleansing is NOT about deprevation. It is about clearing toxins and waste from the body. Take the time to explore what options are right for you. Make sure you know the way the cleanse is designed to work and follow its directions completely. THIS INCLUDES HOW TO COME OFF THE CLEANSE. Coming off a cleanse is every bit as important as being on it. Your body is resting on a cleanse, especially when you are not eating food with it. On any cleanse, be sure you drink plenty of water and use mild laxative teas (I personally stay away from senna because it is too harsh for my system) at night to help with eliminations only if necessary.
My body was on a hunt for a good liver cleanse for seveal years and I kept focusing on the colon. Finally, the Universe started to put people on my path that were talking to me about cleansing the liver and I came across a great cleanse called The Master Cleanse. You may have head of it as The Lemonade Diet but it is not a designed to be a diet. I found this to be extremely helpful in a variety of areas and am constantly coming across people who praise it. I loved it and it worked like a charm! As a matter of fact, it worked so well, I invite you to try it with me in April 2009 (see information on our new blogtalk radio show The Honoring Hour).
Whatever method you choose, the important choice is to cleanse! If you wouldn't go through life never cleansing the inside of your home or car, then don't go through life neglecting to cleanse the inside of your body. It is the most important possession you have. Without it, where would you live?
The Season Is Changing
And so are we!
We are innately designed to "hiberate" to a cerain degree during the winter, as it is a time for us to reflect. To help us with this, we were automatically drawn to the heavier foods that were more available naturally in our areas. There is very good reason for this! Our odies are keeping the fires burning during the winter to help us stay warm and cozy. That is not the case anymore. Spring has sprung and it is time for a change!
Now that Spring has arrived, our bodies are responding with a desire for the lighter foods we find so abundant in the coming months. As with all Universal timing, this is no coincidence. The link between our bodies and our natural resources are very rea. To help us switch from our heating system to our cooling system, our need for vitamins and minerals change. Because the foods grown locally are experiencing the same environmental conditions, they will be in alignment with many of our nutritional needs.
Due to shipping and transportation, the ability to have most foods at any time has greatly impacted our bodies. Never the less, even though we may not choose the foods indigenous to our area, our bodies will know and will innately gravitate toward our local agriculture and foods sources.
It may seem that since many of us living in climates with seasonal changes go through this yearly, we should be used to it. However, as with any transition, it is important that we take the time to attune ourselves to what is around us. Some may experience a sense of vulnerability that comes from leaving one way of being and adjoining with another. Having the support of the Earth through her bountiful produce is a great way to stay connected and feel safe.
Unfortunately, much of the produce, even organic and locally grown, contain less nutritional value than they have in the past so it is important to support your food with good sources of vitamin and mineral supplements. Getting to know your body and its needs is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Taking good care of it is even better. So in this time of wonder and awe, as the life force on the planet becomes more tangible, don't forget to take some time to savor the miracles Mother Nature is providing. Listen to your body and enjoy the change!
What Are You Planting?
A look at your root chakra
Our first chakra, also known as the root chakra, is located at the base of the spine. Not surprisingly, the element associated with this chakra is Earth. With all the changes occurring on the planet, it can reasonably be expected that we would have changes in this chakra as well.
This is the chakra that deals with how we related to society. It is very much influenced by our upbringing and the social norms and belief systems of our culture and family. These roots can be very deep and very strong. They can calso be very old and depleted in some cases. The Universe is calling for all of us to take a loot at these influences in our lives and assess whether they are a part of who we really are at a Soul level. It is time for great change on the planet, and it is reaching all the way down to our roots.
The new energy entering the planet is all about moving into a more loving and nurturing way of being. The whole "All is One" theme is one of the popular descriptions for this new energy. What's actually happening is that we are moving from a linear system of duality, where things have to be one or the other or somewhere in between, into a spherical system that is gently surrounding us with love and nurturing.
This new spherical system has the energy it implies ~ things will come around and then go out, and then come around againg and go out, etc. If we are having an experience in our life that tends to repeat, or situations that continue to come up, and we aren't particularly happy about them, then we are being given the opportunity to revisit our belief's associated with it. In a linear system, we also had these opportunities becaseu we continued to draw them to us. Because that system was dualistic in nature, we may have interpreted these repeats as setbacks, failures or bad luck (positive situations tend not to catch our attention as much). None of those things are true; it is simply teh slaw of attraction working. In the spherical paradigm, when these situations revist, we are now supported with the new loving, nurturing energy that is lfowing with it. By the same token, if we are resisting these energies, the situation can feel even more harsh than it has in the past. A friend of mine used to refer to these situations as a "blue ball". It was like having this blue ball continue to show up. She could see it coming. She had to learn to shift her perspective so she could deal with the blue ball differently, as we all do. It wasn't her enemy, nor is it yours. It is just energy that is coming around to be sorted through. The more we are willing to do this applying different perspectives and opening to new ideas, the smoother the situation becomes until the energy is dispersed and blended, becoming One with all else. The spherical paradigm is here to help us do that lovingly. In order to allow that love and nurturance into our experience, we may have to be willing to look deeply into our own closets and dig out some belief systems that may or may not serve us any more.
Belief systems that are associated with the root chakra can be very challenging to change. That is because they are societal which means a lot of other people are holding that same belief and making it very powerful. Even more challenging is the fact that our family is usually a part of that population. Even if our outward appearance and behavior does not reflect that belief, it doesn't mean we don't hold it. We may have chosen to express it in it's total opposite. To release it or change it, we need to bring it into balance by accepting all aspects of it. Another thing that make beliefs associated with this chakra challenging is taht this chakra is teh area of survival. Societies survive basedon the common beliefs that keep them together. Changing things around in this chakra can feel like we are not safe or that our survival is in question. This is not true. It is just an illusion we are buying into because our beliefs are an extremely strong system. They have an incredible influence over who and what we are, do, think, know.
Over the past several weeks, I am finding many people's ideas about societal norms are coming into question. Some of these situations are showing up through reflections in our closest relationships. We are being asked to look at things that no longer work for us and we are finding these things rooted in the ideas we were taught at a very young age about what is acceptalbe and what is not. Who is acceptable and who is not. How something is acceptable and how it is not. We are being asked to accept things that may not be familiar to us at this time; to go into new ways of operating on mass levels. Some are ahead of teh game and they are already allowing teh new energy to assist them in these shifts. Some are just beginning and this is feeling very confusing and frightening, creating the desire to resist and causing harsh experiences. It can all feel very unsettling.
We have all heard the expression "you reap what you sow". Our belief systems are the seeds we sow. just like a good starter plant, they were handed down from previous generations. Maybe it is time to get some new seeds, maybe all new seeds. Possibly we have seeds that could benefit others and we are being asked to pass them on. Manifestation is happening faster and faster and it is not always showing up in the row we expected it to grow. A prayer for family support may show up in a family fued so old hurts and misunderstandings can be aired and soothed. This world is changing at a rapid pace with no signs of slowing. We are the ones here to help it along the way. The focus is global... that means it is societal. This new moon is in Aries, the beginning of the zodiac, in Spring... a great time for new beginnings. Pay attention to what you planting with your beliefs. Is it what you want to see reflected back to you from the world? The world is your garden; you are an individual expression of a community garden. Plant it accordingly.
